All members of the brotherhood hold a specific rank within Sverðin. Each rank confers specific privileges and is associated with various levels of skills and knowledge.

Sverðin literally translates to "The Swords” in norrœnt mál. This is very representative of what it represents to this day: A brotherhood of men together with a reserve force defined by strong warrior inclinations.

There are 6 ranks within Sverðin, and 7 additional ranks within Skjǫldrinn. Reaching any such rank is subject to various conditions, always including swearing an oath (type and scope vary by rank).

OPERATIONAL UNITS

There are 3 different types of units: Hersar Hirðir (composed of Hirðmenn in training as well as Hersar, and typically led by Úfhéðnar or Hersar), Berserkir Hirðir (composed of Berserkir), and Úfhéðnar Hirðir (composed of Úfhéðnar).
