Non-Western Immigrants are Never Integrated

A report from Danmarks Statistik (Statistics agency of the Danish government), titled “Indvandrere i Danmark 2020” (Immigrants in Denmark 2020), concludes that non-western migrants in Denmark never adapt or integrate, even the second and third generation.

Here’s the summary of an article published in Norway:

It is Den Korte Avis that tells about the case.

It is in particular the non-western immigrants who stand out, both in terms of education and participation in working life:

Western immigrants are also involved, but both they and their children manage more or less on a par with Danes, it is written in the article.

Den Korte Avis addresses developments in the long term, and focuses on second- and third-generation immigrants. The figures you look at therefore do not apply to the immigrants themselves:

…. but exclusively the children of the descendants and descendants. Both groups are pr. definition born and raised in Denmark.

First school and education:

At the primary school leaving exams, Danish young people received an average grade of 7.3 (the girls a higher average than the boys, the two sexes have been merged for the sake of clarity). Non-Western descendants received only received 5.9, a difference of 1.4 grade.

Immigrants are lagging behind, and already here integration is starting to cut, according to Den Korte Avis:

No other variable plays a bigger role than grades when later success or failure is measured.

And quite rightly so. At the age of 30, Danish men and women have taken a qualifying education to a much greater degree than descendants.

Danish 30-year-olds are on average 79.5 per cent who have taken an education, while this only applies to 64.5 per cent. of the descendants.

For women specifically, the picture is somewhat less gloomy, but female descendants of immigrants are still behind Danish women.

Then to the participation in working life, based on an index of 100 (Danish men and women):

All other groups are lower than Danish men and Danish women, between 73 and 91.

One group in particular has extra weak occupational participation:

Descendants of Somalis stand out completely and lie at 48 (sic!).

The group that comes out best are female descendants of Vietnamese.

As the only one of ten non-western subgroups, they are at exactly 100 and thus on a par with Danish women.

According to Den Korte Avis, it is particularly disturbing that third-generation immigrants do not do better than the second generation:

For the subgroup of descendants of Pakistanis, this time there is an improvement from 5.7 to 6.4 on average, a relatively large improvement, but still far below the Danish average of 7.3.

For the other two large groups, descendants of Turks (incidentally often in practice Kurds) and those from the former Yugoslavia, there are almost no improvements from the second and to the third generation.

According to Den Korte Avis, a large proportion of those surveyed are descendants of "guest workers" who arrived in Denmark as early as the 1960s and 1970s, from Pakistan, Turkey and the then Yugoslavia.

The newspaper describes the figures for the third generation in particular as "shocking", and believes this testifies to the fact that there is no prospect of improvement:

When looking at the total group of descendants, the picture looks quite depressing. Descendants boys are 0.1 up in grade, while girls in third generation have gone 0.2 grade down.

Thus, there is no prospect that these crucial numbers should improve in the fourth, fifth and so on generation.

The numbers are (…) appalling. They testify with extremely high certainty that the non-westerners' growing share of the population in this country will make Denmark relatively poorer and poorer. No other reasonable conclusion is given, Den Korte avis concludes.

In Denmark, therefore, neither figures for education nor participation in working life for non-Western immigrants seem to improve significantly with the generations. They are clearly after the ethnic Danes.

There is no completely identical survey for this in Norway, but there is little evidence that the picture is dramatically much better in our country. The acclaimed integration is simply a lead-heavy project, no matter what billions are thrown in.
